The first Pacific oil rush 100 years ago in California was driven by natural oil seeps onshore driving the exploration of what was to become the fourth largest oil producing state in the USA. Offshore Ecuador, the stage is set for the sequel to the exploration triumphs of the past; where the plot is again thick with oil seeps and discoveries, but where reprocessed seismic data is the action hero taking centre stage on re-imagining this margin.
