Tangier 3D Seismic Survey
Unlocking the mysteries of the Scotian Basin
Searcher’s exclusive brokerage deal with BP Canada and Hess Canada brings to the forefront the Tangier 3D Seismic Data, spanning a striking 8,502 km² in the heart of the Scotian Basin. This unique data offering provides notable improvements in data quality and unveils enticing exploratory potential within this prospect-laden territory. The wide-azimuth (WAZ) 3D seismic is instrumental in capturing low-frequency content vital for imaging complex terrains beneath an extensive salt canopy, reminiscent of the world-renowned deep-water Gulf of Mexico.
Before the acquisition of the Tangier 3D data, imaging thick Cretaceous and Jurassic clastic sequences in the lower slope and basin floor was challenging due to complexities below the salt canopy. However, the implementation of high-resolution Kirchhoff and RTM depth processed volumes has imparted unparalleled clarity in imaging sub-salt sequences, sand fairways, and direct hydrocarbon indicators. In the strategically situated, sand rich core of Nova Scotia, the newly revealed structural plays by Tangier 3D stand at the global forefront. The drilling of the Aspy D-11 well within the Tangier 3D survey zone supports the existence of an oil generative system. This state-of-the-art WAZ 3D seismic survey has unlocked a wealth of untapped potential in this underexplored basin.
