Paterson 2D Reprocessing

Enhanced Seismic Imaging for Mineral Exploration

Over 800,000 line kilometers of legacy seismic data exists onshore Australia, acquired since the 1960s for petroleum exploration and more recently for deeper crustal studies. Much of the existing processing did not focus on imaging features of interest for mineral explorers and reprocessing key lines with a mineral exploration mindset is adding considerable new insights into deeper crustal structure, opening up new possibilities in the realm of mineral exploration.

Key 2D seismic lines, reprocessed in the Paterson Province, have given us a greatly improved imaging of the Neoproterozoic Yeneena Basin, the Barnicarndy Graben basin margins, and key  structures. The attainment of such high-quality results paired with valuable geological insight requires a strong foundation of geological input to guide and select suitable processing algorithms. Our comprehensive project carried out in conjunction with several leading seismic processing companies illustrates a blueprint of effective cross-functional collaboration. From the intricate structural history of the Anketell Fault to the bedrock topography on both ends of the Barnicarndy Graben, our reprocessed data offers a wealth of geological exploration insights.

Featured Projects

Orange Basin - Namibia - Phase 2 - Kudu

Searcher has successfully completed Phase 2 of the Namibian Orange Basin Multi-Client 3D Seismic Survey campaign. This significant milestone builds upon the achievements of Phase 1 and continues our collaboration with Shearwater and NAMOR to explore the full potential of the Orange Basin…

Orange Basin - South Africa - Phase 5 - Navel

The Orange Basin extends across the coasts of both Namibia and South Africa, capturing significant interest due to its high exploration potential. Building on the successful completion of the first four phases in Namibian waters, Phase 5 marks our inaugural venture into the South African Orange Basin…

Pelotas Basin - Brazil

The Pelotas Basin, located offshore Brazil, is one of the world’s last unexplored clastic Cretaceous sedimentary sections, sharing similar sequences and prospectivity with the proven conjugate Orange Basin. This unexplored basin features classic play elements such as coarse-grained quartz-rich clastic reservoirs, various structural traps, and two prolific…
