Mt Isa Deep Crustal 2D Seismic Reprocessing
Decoding Depth – High-Resolution Seismic for Mt Isa's Hidden Potential
The 2025 reprocessing of select deep-crustal Geoscience Australian 2D seismic lines from the Mt Isa 2D (2006) and Isa-Georgetown-Charters Towers 2D (2007) surveys
provides critical imaging within top 5km as well as confirming deeper crustal architecture.
The processing by HiSeis was focussed on the upper 5 seconds to provide better resolution of the Soldiers Cap Group and cover sequences. Intriguing aseismic zones within the Soldiers Cap Group can be interpreted as melt fronts with internal metasomatized zones appearing as dome shaped reflectors. Greater confidence in mapping of depth of cover assists with planning and implementing ongoing exploration activities.
The deep-tapping faults continue to reactivate over time until they break through the cover sequences; use of such reprocessed data with greater resolution compared to the legacy can therefore drive future geochemical sampling programs.
