Activity in the Onshore Perth Basin continues to gather momentum
09 Sep 2015
Searcher Seismic is pleased to announce the initial results from the Onshore North Perth Basin Super-Tie reprocessing project are now available.
The completed project will provide a consistent, high quality 2D seismic grid comprising more than 10,000 km over the Onshore North Perth Basin, including ties to most of the key wells in the area.
The dataset will provide companies a unique opportunity to use a comprehensive, fully integrated database in conjunction with exciting recent exploration results to provide a new foundation for understanding the prospectivity of the area, which is currently an area of increasing industry focus.
Mark Ballesteros, Chief Geoscientist for Searcher, noted that the project is well-timed with the increased activity in the area.
“Activity in the Perth Basin continues to gather momentum. AWE recently announced a substantial increase in the gross recoverable gas volumes in the Waitsia, Senicio, Irwin and Synaphea fields, with 2P Reserves plus 2C Contingent Resources now exceeding 720 Bcf.
“This confirms the accumulation as the largest conventional gas discovery onshore WA since the 1960s.
“The announcement is particularly significant because much of the gas is trapped in good quality conventional reservoirs in the Permian Kingia/High Cliff Sandstones, opening up an exciting new play in basin.
“In addition, Empire Oil reported that gas and condensate reserves in the Jurassic reservoirs at Red Gully Field have also been increased substantially, reinforcing the fact that there are multiple working petroleum systems that companies can target.”, Mr Ballesteros added.
The Onshore North Perth Basin Super-Tie brings Searcher’s 2D Australian onshore data library to over 43,000 kilometres.
